Forget about 3 bucks. How does free work for you? That’s right, there’s no beating happy hour grub. But you’re often stuck with pretzels and some weird nut bowl. Not at Adesso, the new Italian wine bar in Oakland’s Piedmont Avenue neighborhood. From 5 to 7 p.m., you get a buffet of free food with any purchase of alcohol (wine, mixed drinks and beer). Many of the items are from the antipasti section of the regular menu: mini panini sandwiches with ham and mozzarella, cece beans with rapini and toasted almonds, little gem salads, marinated carrots and olives. And if you miss the early happy hour, the free food comes back from 11 p.m. to midnight.
